Delta GEMS (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully)

Help us catch the dreams of African-American girls! Delta GEMS is a youth program supporting adolescent girls grades 9 – 12, ages 14 – 18 years old living in Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender counties. We offer a road map for college and career planning through interactive lessons and activities that support self-reflection and growth.

Program Goals:

  1. To instill the need to excel academically;
  2. To provide tools that enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success;
  3. To assist girls in proper goal setting and planning for their futures in high school and beyond; and
  4. To create compassionate, caring, and community-minded young women by actively involving them in service learning and community service opportunities.

Who should participate in Delta GEMS?

Young women interested in developing their leadership skills, learning how to plan for the future, and giving back to the community are encouraged to participate! We are looking for young women who are:

  • Interested in developing leadership skills
  • Actively pursuing college and/or career options, and
  • Need the encouragement and support of high-learning
  • Identified as potential candidates by schools, churches, youth groups, and/or former Delta Academy participants

Virtual meetings are held on the first Saturday of every month and generally follow the calendar school year. Please email a completed application to ilmDeltaGEMS@gmail.com by downloading the form below:
