Delta Foundation of the Cape Fear

Delta Foundation of the Cape Fear (DCFC) is a 501c3 organization established in 2014 to support the programs of the Wilmington Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. as a non-profit entity. Composed of a small group of financially active members of the chapter, the DFCF operates as a separate organization, with its own governing doctrine, finances, and dues structure. Membership is by invitation only.

Contributions & Achievements

DFCF often partners with the Wilmington Alumnae chapter to co-fund community activities and programs. The DFCF has secured the Hello Arts! grant, (formally known as Broadway for a Better World) from the Wilson Center for several seasons, creating opportunities for Delta GEMS and Academy participants to go to the theatre. It has also used funds raised to support the chapter’s UNC-W Endowed Scholarship, and, in true WAC fashion, continues to set the standard of being the “first” to lead in our community.

After its successful Shades of Sisterhood Tea during the NC Azalea Festival weekend in 2023, the DFCF approached the NC Azalea Festival Committee and became the first African American organization added to the Festival’s calendar of events with its 2024 inaugural Celebration of African American Arts and Culture. This even is a celebration of the African American experience through visual and performing arts, supported by a grant from the Wilmington/New Hanover Arts Council. Having secured an additional Grassroots grant from the Arts Council, plans are underway for a reprisal at the 2025 NC Azalea Festival with an emphasis on featuring performing artists from NC’s historically black colleges and universities!
