The Wilmington Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta will celebrate its 85th year in 2025. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is a Black Greek organization founded at Howard University in 1913. Sixteen visionary women wanted to continue the mission of the national organization by bringing a grad chapter to Wilmington in 1940.

In honor of Women’s History Month, New Hanover County commissioners recognized a group of women who were trailblazers in buying a home in the 1960s.
